Details of 5 franc coin: obverse
The inscription on the obverse of this coins, with translation in English, reads as follows:
"Said Ali ibn Said Omar. Sultan of Ngazidja, may God almighty protect
him."
To the right, but inside the enclosing text reproduced above, is the date, 1308 AH:
Notice that the arms in the centre of the coin are arranged in such
a way as to spell "Ali" in Arabic characters.
The inscription on the reverse of this coins, with translation in English, reads as follows:
"Protectorate of the glorious French republic. State of Ngazidja. May God protect her."
Mint and privy marks:
The mint mark at A is a letter "A", the pre-1880 mint mark of the Monnaie de Paris mint.
At B is the new mint mark of the Monnaie de Paris mint.
C is the privy mark of the chief engraver: the fasces mark of Jean Lagrange.
